EFY Week Six: Week OFF!!!

So you may ask, how does a team of EFY counselors spend their week off?  In HAWAII of course!!

Ok well, seeing as how we were already there, we stayed a few extra days to play and actually enjoy Hawaii.  We checked into a Condo at Turtle Bay, went to Sam's club on the other side of the Island to get some food for the week and we were set to play in the sun!  (Though we realized later we should have worn more sunscreen)...Saturday we just rested and then some people went to go enjoy Harry Potter.  I went around and sprayed Raid throughout the entire condo, because I was determined to NOT see a cockroach (and thankfully I didn't!  Must have worked...)  Sunday we went to church, and I just LOVE saying Aloha.  Everyone laughs at me, but I think it's the greatest thing ever.  We had such great lessons in both Sunday School and Relief Society.  After church we took a walk on the beach and did some exploring.  We then ended the night watching the Emma Smith movie...we used our projector and took the art off the wall so that we could have a screen :).  Monday morning, Jenny and I got up early to go Horseback riding and we just had a blast.  I love Horses!  We went up a trail that led us to the top of a mountain that overlooked the North Shore!  So cool.  Afterwards we met up with the rest of the gang at the beach where they were snorkeling.  I bought a kick board so that I could go out into the ocean and just float and enjoy the Hawaii water!  Some of our EFY kids found us, so we ended up hanging out with them too!  After that, we went down to another town on the North Shore to get some AMAZING shaved ice.  It was so yummy.  We also did some shopping.  Then we went back to have some dinner and watched the Justin Beiber movie.  So awesome.  Tuesday we went to the Temple in the morning, then off to the Polynesian Cultural Center afterwards.  Highlight?  Meeting President Uchtdorf :)  He was so nice.  We saw him A LOT throughout the day.  He even waved to us when he saw us hula dancing as we were waiting for the Canoe Pageant to start.  The night show there was AMAZING...I really wish I knew how to dance like that!  Wednesday morning, we got up early and checked out of our condo as we were leaving that night.  But we were not done having fun...we went to the Swap Meet and bought lots of goodies and then went to Pearl Harbor!  Afterwards we drove to the Dole Pineapple Plantation and got some Dole whips.  After a little bit of a tangent on our way back and maybe some frustration....we made it to the airport and hopped on our red eye flight back to LA.  We landed in LA at 6am the next morning.  Boy were we tired.  We picked up our new rental cars and the girls headed to my place while the boys headed to my parents.  We showered, rested and then went to Disneyland!  Well the rest of the team played, while I went to work...BUT I was so excited to get back to work cause I really missed my co-workers!  I walked into the office and said ALOHA!  It was fun to see everyone again :)  So I actually worked 3 days and the rest of my team went to Redlands on Friday to start setting up.  It has been nice to be home, sleep in my own bed, see my roomies, and get a bit of rest.  We still have two more sessions, and I'm sure it will fly by!  It is very bittersweet.  I absolutely love EFY and have had such a great summer thus far.  So we'll see what the next two weeks bring! :)

Here are some of the highlights of the week!

Hope everyone is doing well!  Yipee for another two weeks.

EFY Week Five: HAWAII!

ALOHA!

EFY in Hawaii?  Say what?  Yes.  The rumors are true.  We just finished a session of EFY in Hawaii.  It was bliss.  We stayed on the campus of BYU-H which is on the North Shore of Oahu.  The first morning I woke up, I was like hey, i'm in Hawaii!  Thank you EFY :)  We have been to church now twice here and I have to say my favorite part is when the Bishop or a speaker gets up and says ALOHA!  and then everyone in the congregation says Aloha back!  I get so excited that I say it really loud....LOL.  I think I might try that at church back in Cali next time I'm asked to speak.

The week overall was a great one.  We had roughly under 200 youth, and about half were locals and the other half were kids from the Mainland.  They were all SO wonderful and great.  I felt so welcome.  Brother Andre was our session director and he was AMAZING.  We had such a great time talking with him and learning.  This week was hard in some ways because it was our fifth week in a row and we really had to  push through.  I was so tired!  But I wanted to enjoy EFY and enjoy Hawaii.  I was on Slideshow this last week, which was cool cause I got to go be paperazzi the whole week.  The weather is crazy!  Not only is it humid...and the dorms don't have AC :(  But it will rain out of no where and then just stop and be sunny again.  Weird.  I got to room with Jenny penny whom I love and adore.  We had good times!

Well here are some of the highlights from the week :)

The Cali Bunch + our administrator Sheri and The Andre's!

Somehow Logan and Ryan got a LOT of extra leg room on the flight from SB to SF...so not fair..

Brother Andre took a group of us down to the Laie, Hawaii Temple, which is right next to the BYU-H campus.  As fate would have it, we ran into the mission president (President Dalton) of the Hawaii mission...who is a friend of Bro. Andre AND is from Yorba Linda (I think he was in the Stake Presidency).  COOL!

Games night!  Such a blast.  Love all these peeps.

Impromptu photo shoot with Erin and Justin :)

Let me see your shaka's!  MAHALO!!  (or as jenny would say...mahulu)

Such a fantastic week.  We got done officially yesterday and we are staying in Hawaii till Wednesday night!  This coming week is our week off...whew!  So now we get to play and vacation :)  On the agenda: Beach, Hiking, Temple, Pearl Harbor, Horseback riding, snorkeling, Polynesion Cultural Center and just relaxing!  Then we all go to Disneyland on Thursday (everyone else will play while I work)  Then the following week we start up again in Redlands :)  FUN TIMES.  This summer is going by WAY too fast, but i've been having a blast!

Love you all!
Mahalo!
